CELEBRATING LIFE, THE HBCU EXPERIENCE, AND BUILDING COMMUNITIES FOR POSTERITY

"SAY WHAT? THE PRIDE IS BACK!"-Coach Craig Cason

The 1991-1992 Morehouse College Fighting Maroon Tigers football teams exemplified resilience and determination of a Division II football program, transforming past challenges into historic achievements on behalf of those that paved the way. In 1991, the team rose from a struggling position of last place in 1990 to co-champions of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), earning the first national ranking in the college's history in the magical season of 1991 with the theme of "The Pride is Back". The following year, the team secured a memorable victory against Howard University in the renowned "Monsoon Game" of 1992. The rivalry continues present day as  "The HBCU NY Classic... it’s a celebration of culture, excellence, and tradition that draws a diverse, multigenerational audience with strong ties to both the local community and national networks. It is a mission of the HBCUNY Classic to celebrate high levels of achievement and to create meaningful connections that extend far beyond game day."

This upcoming book and documentary aim to honor the journey from adversity to achievement, highlighting fallen teammates and friends posthumously not only for their on and off the field successes, but also addressing health challenges which disproportionately affect us all, and may have caused their untimely deaths as black men. Proactive solutions regarding these challenges will be discussed  to inspire readers towards maintaining  our health in mind, body, and spirit.. By sharing this HBCU story from the student-athlete paradigm during the beginning of the post “School Daze” era,  and the golden age of hip-hop we hope to keep the spirit of our fallen teammates and friends alive, and inspire future generations to pursue excellence, regardless of any obstacles they may face.
